What is Sukhan?

The term “Sukhan” (Persian: سخن) translates to “speech,” “words,” “poetry,” or “conversation.” This captures the essence of our gatherings — a mehfil where performers recite Urdu poetry and render Hindustani classical music, including ghazals and qawwalis. While rooted in Urdu traditions, Sukhan’s performers hail from Pune, a predominantly Marathi-speaking region, embodying a harmonious blend of cultures and artistic heritage.

A Journey Through Prestigious Stages

Over the years, Sukhan has graced prestigious platforms like Jashn-e-Rekhta, Pune International Film Festival, and the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Sammelan, earning acclaim for its unique fusion of linguistic and musical artistry. Our shows bring together poetry lovers and music enthusiasts, offering a space for reflection, restlessness, and collective listening.
